Volunteers Make FLC, Inc. Possible! Thank you for your interest in helping in this worthy cause so fundamental to an individual's success in life.
You volunteer tutors are the life-blood of Family Literacy Centers, Inc.
Volunteers Change Lives. We'll allow the student and their parents to describe this change. Here is an example from a parent:
"David* hated reading time. It was a big fight every night. His attitude has changed. He loves to read and can't get enough. He is trying to read books he would have never tried before. I am so grateful for this program and his tutor. David loves him. He thinks he is the greatest! Thank you for all who have made it a success!"

And some examples from students:

Volunteers Receive Training. Family Literacy Centers, Inc. provides training that helps willing volunteers transform themselves into effective tutors. You can view the video training on the web. See what one tutor has to say about the training:
"Using the training provided through the center, I have set goals for the time John* and I spend together. Each hour is spent learning and practicing spelling words, writing creative narratives, reading pleasure books and playing learning games that we made up ourselves...The change John has exhibited in three short semesters at the Literacy Center is amazing."
--Amy D.*--Parkway Literacy Center--A Tutor/University Student
Volunteers Must Be Committed. Volunteers commit to spend 45 minutes twice a week with their student and coordinate the student's learning with the student's family. Although this is the requirement, some dedicated volunteers choose to tutor multiple students at one time spending hour after hour every week.
Volunteer! If you would like to get involved, please apply as a volunteer on-line.
